3.6 Million Breakdown Records Analyzed

In a comprehensive 2024 report, ADAC analyzed around 3.6 million vehicle breakdown and accident records to assess the reliability of EVs. The results were crystal clear:
EVs are significantly more reliable than internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

According to the ADAC data, the average number of breakdowns per 1,000 vehicles is:

ICE vehicles: 9.4

EVs: 3.8

These figures clearly show that EVs offer a nearly “trouble-free” driving experience.

EVs Outperform in Reliability Index
The study focused on 2020 model year vehicles and showed that EVs consistently have lower failure rates compared to ICE vehicles. Thanks to simplified drivetrains, durable battery systems, and advanced software controls, EVs prove to be more robust in the long run.

The Most Reliable Electric Vehicle: Tesla Model 3
ADAC also revealed the most reliable EV models currently available on the market. Here’s the top three:

Volkswagen ID.3 – Failure index: 0.7
